The Law, Youth and Citizenship (LYC) Program promotes citizenship and law-related education in schools throughout New York State. LYC assists educators in creating opportunities for students to become effective citizens able to participate fully in our democratic society.

Calendar of Professional Development Opportunities

Elementary Teachers Note: The Center for Civic Education will conduct two national institutes for elementary teachers. One from July 5-12, 2009 and the other from July 12-19, 2009. The institutes will be held on the beautiful James Madison campus in Harrisonburg, Virginia. We encourage our We the People teachers to apply. This is a wonderful, all-expenses paid opportunity. Yavner Award 2008

The Board of Regents invites nominations for the Louis E. Yavner Teaching and Citizen Awards for 2008. These awards provide recognition of a teacher and a citizen who have made outstanding contributions to New York State education about the Holocaust and other violations of human rights. Click here for further information and application.
